We Are DAY

I feel like I’ve grown a second home here, it’ll always be a part of my life.”

At the beginning of 2023, we set up ThroughFilm and jumped straight into a great project with Durham Area Youth. DAY were looking to get a promotional film made that showcased the work they do in their local area. They set up in 2017, and since then have grown to provide youth provision across six villages, including Pittington, Sherburn Village, West Rainton, Bournmoor, Sherburn Hill and Great Lumley, delivering a huge range of activities, and engaging with over 350 young people a year. We met Emily at a networking event, and instantly got the vibe that Durham Area Youth were an amazing organisation. We loved their ethos and approach, so we were super excited to get started on this film with them and officially begin our first project as ThroughFilm.

Outputs:

  • Social Media Content

  • Promotional Film

  • Awards Evening Film

The more people we interviewed, the more understanding we gained, and the more the creative direction developed. We came up with the idea to include snippets of audio from the young people themselves, because if you speak to them about DAY, it’s very clear that it means a lot to them, and they were super on board to get involved.

The final film gives insight into the scale of the impact DAY has in numbers.

It’s guided by the voices of the young people, mirroring the approach DAY has themselves.

It shows the wide range of activities organised for the young people.

And most importantly, it shows the joy and sparkle in the young people who attend the sessions.

We were invited to an Awards Evening, organised by DAY, where we were able to watch the films on the big screen, and see the audience reactions first hand. This was also the first time the young people and staff at DAY got to watch it, and judging by the reactions, they absolutely loved seeing what they live and experience every day, reflected through film.

We’re very grateful we’ve been able to create this for DAY, and it’s been a pleasure working with them and witnessing first hand the impact they have on the young people.

“It’s been a fantastically smooth process working with Through Film from start to finish. There was always a strong understanding of what we wanted from our film ensuring we included our young people throughout and it worked for the right audience. The final films just got it spot on to tell our story and showcase our work, just what we hoped for and everyone loved them!”
